About Readiness...

The T-Th class includes children who turn 3 years old by Dec. 31.  The remainder of the children on T-Th and the M-W-F must be 3 by Sept. 1.  Some of the goals we want children to attain at this level include:

  • Speaking comfortably with other children
  • Speaking to adults with whom they are familiar
  • Choosing materials from those on the shelves and using them correctly
  • Putting materials back where they belong
  • Experiencing energetic creative movement, music, and drama

Spring Semester Readiness News and Events

Our February theme will focus on healthy bodies.  We will learn how to keep our bodies healthy through healthy habits, good nutrition and exercise.  We will also learn how our hearts and circulatory system work to supply blood to our bodies.

As we celebrate Valentine’s Day we will emphasis the importance of showing and telling our loved ones and friends that we love them through expressions of love (hugs), card, etc.  We will also encourage random acts of kindness, giving a hug, sharing, saying “I’m sorry” and using our words to express ourselves.

Valentine’s Special Snack Days are Monday and Tuesday, February 13 and 14.  Information regarding Valentine card exchange and special snacks will go home next week in your child’s Memory Book.

On February 22 and 23 we will participate in the “healthy heart workout days”.  Remember to wear comfortable clothes and appropriate shoes on these days.

Spring Semester Pre-K News and Events

Our February theme will center on the Human Body.  We will discuss how the different body parts work.  We will build a life size paper model of ourselves.  We will learn how people are different and alike, and what kind of emotions and feelings we all have.

During our discussion of the human heart we will tie in Valentine’s Day.  We will exchange Valentines on Monday and Tuesday, February 13 and 14.  MWF children should bring 36 cards to exchange; TTh children should bring 20 cards to exchange.  5 day children can bring their cards either or both days.  Children should leave the envelope blank and sign their name on the inside.

We will be walking to the Richmond Postal Station on Morton Street.  Please send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to school as soon as possible.  We will be mailing a very special Valentine to you.  We will have a sign-up sheet posted for anyone who would like to walk with us to the Postal Station.

Just a quick note:  we will not be discussing the reproductive organs with this unit.  We will leave that all up to you!
